Your Perfect Guide To Thien Hau Temple

Thien Hau temple was built to honor Thien Hau or Mazu – the “Lady of the Sea”, the Chinese called Pho Mieu (or temple of the Lady). Next to the pagoda is Tue Thanh Assemlby Hall is a gathering place of the Chinese group Cantonese, so the temple is called Tue Thanh Assembly.

  1. History

Thien Hau pagoda is a group of Chinese people from Quang Chau in Quang Dong province migrated to Vietnam to contribute capital and contribute to construction in about 1760 and restored many times. The temple was located in the center of the first Chinese people to create Cho Lon later.

  1. The story of Thien Hau

According to the scholar Wang Hongzhi, the goddess Thanh Mau (the god who was worshiped in the temple) was named Lam Muong Nuong, in Phuoc Kien. She was born on March 23rd in Admiral Tong (1044). Then, eight yearts old, she could read, eleven year old religious followers. Thirteen years old, she received the poetry: Vo Y down for a set of “ Secret Principles” and she found under the wells a bunch of other ancient stock, and then followed that practice enlightened.

One time, her father sailed with her two sons, brought salt to Jiangxi province to trade, in the middle of the stormy river… At that time she was sitting weaving cloth beside her mother but ecstasy to save his father and two. Every time when the boats in the sea in distress call people to her. In the year of the Tiger (1110), the Song Dynasty honored her as “Mother of Heaven”.

  1. Architecture

The pagoda is built in the shape of a typical architecture of the Chinese people. The three blocks of the middle house make up electricity, central and post- electricity. Between these blocks, there is a space called the natural setting (the skylight), which helps the space of the pagoda, light enough for the harem and a place to escape the incense smoke.

Decoration in the electricity is the shape if flowers, birds and lacquered horizontal, parallel sentences, the sea is usually red, yellow creates warmth, trust. The temple also has continuous paintings, animails of the “ four gods”.

The pagoda is decorated with ceramic statues, pagodas, roofs, porches, altars and walls… made by Buu Nguyen and Dong Hoa ceramics 1908.

  1. Busy day

Cho Lon pagoda everyday sill welcome people to worship the festival. But more than on the first and second lunar month, the Chinese New Year holidays like  the Lunar New Year, Tet festival… In particular, on 28 Tet, pagodas conducted worship Grandmother and the Opening Ceremony, May she support  “National Security”and “Peace”. The day for her (March 23 of Lunar calendar) is considered the main festival of the temple.
